First of all I would like to thank everyone for all the helpfull info I received on my previous posted question.
Well I did a little more digging into the problem. It seems that the previous owner tried to install a toggle switch to lock up the torque converter. It was stuffed up under the dash. He must have connected it to the wrong place. When I tried it, it totally unlocked the converter and the check engine light came on. I removed the switch wiring and disconnected the batteries to reset the computer. The locking/unlocking problem went away. What a relief!!!
I haven't had time to trace where he had actually connected the switch but it obviously wasn't correct. But one thought is that an 8 foot wire attached to a data line makes a great antenna for all types of noise injection to the computer. I'll post more when I get time to trace it out.
Thanks
