Has anyone changed their torque converter with an aftermarket, while the trans etc. is still under warranty? My local dealer is finally going to replace my transmission since it keeps eating metal after their three attempts to rebuild the original. I had just put in a BD dual clutch converter, (after the last rebuild) but I'm afraid to leave it there for the change out, as they could say it voids the warranty and no new trans. The dealer and I are at opposite ends of the friendship spectrum, so no favors would be granted. They are going to replace the trans, but as a condition, I am to go elsewhere for any warranty work. They screw up and I get the business, but anyway, I'd like your input on the warranty issue.

Thanks

SRehberg,

If it's Stockton Dodge, I'll bet they have a problem with it... I avoid that place like the plague..... Every time I go there I want to start an A$$kicking contest..... Good Luck.

I changed out the torque convertor on dad's truck with 7 K miles on it,mine with 50K,bothwere under warranty. I wouldnt even try to get warranty service for the trans now. I dont want any DC dealer inside my trans ever again. In my case,i do all the work myself, but even if i didnt,id take it to a performance shop to have a performance rebuild done. IMO,once you modify the trans, its in your hands,DC is not obligated to warranty it.

I put the DTT setup in my truck at 12k... I know my dealer knows that I did it. . but they haven't said a work. In return, I've never had them work on my transmission the change. Even to do simple ATF changes.

Thanks for the replies, and it pretty well confirms what I suspected. J. Wagner, you're right about Stockton Dodge; this is why I'm having so much trouble now. The trans went in at 33,000 for the lip seal change on the front drum, and 3 rebuilds later, it still eats metal. If I could get them to give me the trans, I'd install it myself, as the last time they stripped 6 bolts out of the case for the pan. Now they act like it's my fault I call them on their work. If I need a trans again, it'll be a performance one like ATS etc. A good five or six speed would cure this problem!

Any experience with Chrysler's rebuilt transmissions from whoever they get them from?

SRehberg,

First transmission went at 35k, and I nursed the second until 95k. I then had Herb at Custom Truck (Yuba City) do it right with full DTT upgrades. . I don't know what HP upgrades you have, or intend on having, or what your tow habits are, but your Time, Grief and Worry are worth something. . I would ask myself, is it worth fighting with D/C to get an "inefficent, soon to break" transmission for free, or should I just bite the bullet and do it right with ATS, DTT or whatever your choice may be. . PM me if you have any questions. .

Torque converter & warranty

I'm at the mercy of the stealer for the moment, I had to pay 50% of the first rebuild as my time warranty but not mileage, was up. It comes down to cash flow for the time being, but I will upgrade to one of the known good units when the time comes.

I don't know if the replacement units are any good either, but the warranty is good at all D/C stealers which is good if you need it.

Thanks for the help, and everyone seems to have the same opinion about the local dealer.
