I was wondering if any body knows the torque for the flex plate bolts? I am replacing transmission today and the flex plate and would like to now the torque specs. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Randy,

If by flex plate, you mean the pressure plate, or as my service manual (96) calls it, the clutch cover, here it is:

cover bolts must be tightned evenly, a few turns at a time to avoid distorting the cover. Tighten 5/16 in. diameter bolts to 23 N-m (17 ft. lbs. )

Tighten 3/8 in. diameter bolts to 41 N-m (30 ft. lbs. )

If were not on the same page let me know and i'll look it up.

Flex plate is the "flywheel" for the automatics. And I believe that is 50 lbs with plenty of threadlocker. Now on my flywheel, I torqued those bolts at 100 lbs with locktight.

. . Preston. .

The '97 FSM calls the flex plate a "drive plate". The bolts are to be torqued to 55 ft/lbs. Make sure to put a thread locker on the bolts.

Thanks guys for the torque specs. Putting in the Goerend trans as we speak :D . I finally scraped up enough pennies to upgrade. I will post how it works hopefully tomorrow, I think it should go together nice. Thank you again for information.

Well its in Oo. :D . This transmission is awesome!!!! I can't believe the difference, Josh Peters said it would be a different animal, all I can say is it was the best investment yet. It locks up right now & shifts firm. I am all :D. Thank you every one again for the torque specs.
