As you guys know, I'm running that #12 and getting nervous about the never-ending excessive smoke (=fuel, =heat). I'm still planning on throwing that pyro and TST AFC spring in there first chance I get... But, has anyone ever tried running a moderate torque plate like that WITH the wastegate hooked up? If so, what happened? (My goal here is to have descent tow power, but to preserve that turbo 'till the truck's paid for)

Not sure exactly what your asking but I am running a #10 plate with the wastegate connected and making around 38-40 lbs. of boost when I stomp on it. My EGTs never get above 1350* on a hard acceleration goin' through the gears. My turbo is the stock HX-35 with a Banks 14cm wg turbine housing and I have heard that the HX-35's optimum boost is around 36-40 lbs. Not sure how much power I am making but the truck definately has way more balls than it used to ever since I put the 3GSK and the #10 plate in it. It gets very good mileage, too. Total mileage on the engine is around 140-150,000. Bigger tires and a lift make for confusing odometer readings... ...

I've got a #12 slid to within . 040 of full forward full forward was just alot of smoke and egt's went thru the roof. I put the boost control elbow on that came with the tst kit and it is suppose to bring the boost up to around 40 psi my boost gauge only goes up to 30 but it does peg the gauge.

Looks like the shop that installed my torque plate must've tossed the new AFC/wastegate fitting that would've come with the kit... Anyone know where I might be able to get that fitting without the whole kit?

What piece are you refering to, cuz if it the elbow with the bleed on it, I have that. It came with my Peirs #10 kit and the only piece out of that kit I used was the plate itself. I did not want to install that elbow with the adjustable screw. And that screw wasn't exactly adjustable, being I couldn't get it to budge at all. They must have used some serious loc-tite.

So you're wastegate is hooked up stock-style? If you're making that high of boost that way, that's not bad!

Yeah, I just have the regular fittings on my AFC housing going to the manifold and the wastegate and making 40 lbs. of boost max. I was thinking of trying the elbow to see what difference it makes but not interested really since I am in the most efficent boost area of the HX-35.

I just installed a #10 plate with the bleeder, I've only seen low 20s for boost since then, compared to 15 stock. I guess I'd better check for boost leaks and make sure I am getting full throttle.

I would definately check for leaks somewhere, that boost is quite low. You should be making at least 20 psi stock, at least mine did and have heard others making that much bone stock. You should be up around at the very least 30+ psi with the #10. Check your governor lever to make sure it is hitting the plate, and do what you said also, check you throttle linkage to make sure it is giving the engine full fuel at WOT.

Matthew:

If you have the stock H1C turbo, your boost numbers are about right. You will have to upgrade the turbo to get the numbers that the 96 and up trucks are getting. There are kits to upgrade that turbo or your best bang for the buck would be a Piers HX35. With that turbo you would be good too more H. P. than your pump can supply with out a major rebuild.
