I am fixing to add some goodies to my 95 w/ auto, #5 TST plate, guages, 4" exhaust system from turbo back, I already have a K/N filter and lock-up switch on transmission. My question is will the transmission hold up with normal driving? I do pull a 16' cattle trailer occasionally

I have a 97, and last week, had a triple disc, low stall billet cover TC installed. While I was there (Goerend's in St. Lucas Ia. ) they tore the transmission open & replaced anything that was worn. The forward drive clutches were worn out & replaced, along with the inner oil pump gear & housing (gear wore into it) & the sungear for OD was pitted, & so replaced. Everything else was fine. The transmission had 165k on it with a lot of torque & HP, and moderate towing. However, there is quite a difference between the 96 & up trannys compared to 95 & earlier. According to Dave Goerends, the 96 & up have a larger dia. input shaft where shaft contacts the stator support. After mid 95, the front planet was changed from an aluminum 4 planet, to a cast iron 5 planet. The center shaft doesn't have the dual lube holes for the OD planet, the rear bands are single wrap on 95's, triple wrap on the later ones. The OD section on the later ones have steel 5 pinion, 15 deg. planets with lube slots, and the OD clutches have a 10 plate design rather than 8. There are no doubt other differences, but these are the ones I wrote down.

Not knowing how many miles are on your transmission or how it is operating now, my opinion would be to just use it and realize the torque converter will probably start slipping eventually from your added power. Be easy on it if it starts to slip and nurse it along until you can get a good rebuilt transmission with a triple disc torque converter that will handle the power.

Some may say you should get a new converter and rebuild the transmission now, but you can get a completely rebuilt Georand Brothers transmission with triple disc converter for the same price as getting a new converter and having the transmission rebuilt locally. So run what you have until it almost dies, then change it out. Maybe you'll get many years out of yours.
