Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Pushrod Cover Replacement?

What is the proper way of locking the engine to torque the injection pump timing gear nut? The recommendation I read was 165 ft lbs.
I've done this a number of times before and I believe I stuck a rag under the alternator pulley, but it seems there has to be a better way.
The injection pump is installed and the keyway is lined up with the mark on the timing cover.
Thanks

I have never used a barring tool. I was under the impression it did not lock the flywheel in place, that it only allowed you to turn it.
Do I need a helper to prevent the barring tool from moving while I torque the nut? Thanks.

No. Just slide it in the hole. It pretty much jams the flywheel/flex plate teeth. At least on mine it does.
