is the aam axles with lsd have torsen type lsd? im not real familliar with this type and i just changed the oil in my diff was checking it all out and on the right side of the carrier opposite the ring gear you can see the torsen gears just peaking out of the housing. i hope this is the way there made they dont look like there wearing into the housing but i dont know. any one have experience can you tell me is this right? and when i first got it it made some metal on the plug but has slowly gone down to almost nothing at 12k im assuming these lsd make some metal until broke in thanks ron

havent take the cover off mine to change the fluid yet but you should be able to see the gears through the slots in the case they move up and down which lock the diff (if its the type im thinking of all the new Gm performance cars r using them too and i have done a couple of them)

In the latest Four Wheeler magazine they did a pretty in depth comparison of the new AAM 1150 vs the venerable Dana 80.

Another LS that is similar is the Tru Trac.

As long as you have metal to metal contact there will always be some wearing of parts. Especially when new.

YES

I have been into mine 3 times - the gears to "protude" through the large casting on mine. Regarding the metal - I had metal at 22K - as much or more at 40 K - pulled just as much off the plug at 40,800 - and again, just as much at about 43k. I believe mine is wearing out fast. But I pull heavy loads every weekend. Mine has been grinding when I make 90 deg turns with a load - and it is getting worse. I would have more info about the grinding but I can't get it to grind empty so I am waiting until I am closer to warranty to take it in. When I do, I will post a thread. I have figured out that the LS is really trying to work because it catches when I am in gravel during a sharp slow turn. I'll see in time.

Tell us, how did they like the AAM?

They liked it a lot. It is equal to the Dana 80 and in a few ways better.

It turns out that AAM was formerly GM's Saginaw Axle Division and the new AAM 11. 50 is the evolution of the old 14 bolt Corporate axle.
