HI, Just got my truck about 4 months ago and have done a few bombs. Don't know how truck was treated before me but I want to change all the fluids. From the posts I've seen it appears Amsoil is the preferred type.

QUESTION IS: What do I get for my truck and how much. I will have the radiator flushed by a local shop. , But will do the rest myself. I added a profile on what I have done so far to the truck if that helps.

Thanks all for any information i can get. .

The Amsoil product selection guide specifies the following lubes for your "97" TD:

Engine: Synthetic Diesel & Marine Oil SAE 15W-40 or Series 3000 HDD SAE 5W-30. Capacity: 10qts. Amsoil Oil filter: SDF 80

Transmission: ATF Synthetic. Trans. capacity is listed as 4qts. but that doesn't include the torque converter. check the TDR forum for the procedure to change ATF fluid.

Transfer case: ATF Synthetic. Capacity NV241 5pts. NV241HD 6. 5pts.

Differentials: Synthetic Gear Lube SAE 75W-90, Series 2000 SGL SAE 75W-90, Series 2000 SGL SAE 75W-140. Don't forget the LS additive if applicable. Front Dana 60 capacity: 7. 6pts. Rear Dana 70 capacity: 7. 8pts. Don't overfill! Specs call for 1/4" below plug on 60's and 3/4" on 70's.

Hope this helps.

I noticed that the Mobil1 synthetic ATF is recommended on every auto trans. except Chrysler/Dodge products... I also read another thread somewhere here quoting a trans. shop recommending not to use the amsol syn. ATF... . I'd make double sure before installing... . these trannys are finicky enough!

The Amsoil ATF has been reformulated to meet the Chrysler ATF+4 specs. : it has been that way for about two years, prior to that it did not meet the Chrysler spec. that may be the reason it wasn't recommended.

You didn't say how many miles on the truck. So, if you are over 90K or so, you should replace the brake fluid. And it wouldn't hurt to replace the P/S fluid with synthetic, too.
