Howdy Dudes,
I have rounded up all of the parts to do a complete front end/suspension rebuild. I am replacing every replaceable part on the front end, from springs to track bar (2 wheel drive) tie rods, ball joints, bushings ect. All MOOG parts. Just curious if there is anything out of the ordinary I need to be aware of. I plan on doing all the work myself (with assistance). The reason for the total rebuild is that the truck has 206,000 miles. It runs very strong and I hope to get another 150,000 out of it. I will also be replacing the shocks and having the front end aligned. Thanks for any pointers.

Hopefully you have Air Tools. Otherwise make sure you have a good sized pipe to use for leverage. I replaced my Outer Tierod ends without air and just used a pipe on the end of ratchet. After 27 turns, my forearms were twice the size. Made me feel like Popeye.

Thanks Nutty Mopar, guess i should have mentioned that I will be using Air Tools and spring compressor (sp). I have done some previous front end work but that was on an old Oldsmobile!!!!

Thanks for the heads up... ... ... .

A good note from the shop I got work done at is that the upper ball joint is threaded in not pressed. If you press it out you will have to get another A arm with new threads!!! Be careful!

Well complete and total success. I must confess though, I took all the parts to my local repair facility and told them to have at it. Job was completed in 2 days total (they didn't start until late on day one). All I can say is awsome!!!! Amazing the difference in ride. As I said I used all MOOG chassi parts. For those wondering about springs for the 2wd trucks I strongly suggest the MOOGS. My suspension had 210,000 miles on it so it was WORN out. The new springs raised the ride height about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch, a noticiable difference to me and the wife. She dropped me off to pick it up and when I pulled into the driveway she said that it (the hood) looked higher. I took my comparison based on distance from top of wheel to fender on wheel well on the front. Total for install of all parts (springs, shocks, bushings, drag link, ball joints, tie rods etc. ) was 480. 00 including alignment. I just didn't have the time to do it myself.

If anyone wants, I will post the part numbers for the things I used. They are the same for 91-93. There were several folks who asked about the springs. The part number for those were MOOG 7226. This is the same number for the 3/4 and 1 tons. I will not be around this weekend so the earliest I will respond will be Monday.

Later... ...

Question? The arm that comes off the steering gear box is connected to a long steering bar, my question is this I have play between the steering arm and the steering bar,Is the ball joint between the steering arm replaceable? or do I have to replace the whole steering bar( drag link)
Best Regards
Mike

Please post all those MOOG P/N's. My 92 W250 2 wheel drive with 185,000 miles also needs total rebuild. I appreciate your efforts. Thanks.

Mike,
I believe you can replace the parts you are talking about without doing the entire bar. When I got the bar (drag link) it was the only part in the box. I will look back on my parts list and let you know for sure. I chose to replace the drag link because if the place where the tie rods bolt on has gotten loose or worn then the hole it bolts to is probably worn. The bar cost me about $85. 00. After install, it is a night and day difference. The only thing now is that I need a Borgensen Steering shaft. I still have some play in my shaft above the steering box. Sorry I don't have the part numbers today but will post tomorrow.
