Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Strange lunging problem

Ate the rear end of a semi trailer for breakfast this morning around 0520 in downtown Dallas. The rear of the trailer hit the firewall and pushed it back about 6-8 inches on the passenger side. A total loss.

My dilema. I need another truck. Don't really want a 6. 7. Prefer a 5. 9, common rail ok. Regular cab 2 wheel drive Standard trans. Looking for some input, maybe a lead on someone looking to sell and get a new one. Not looking for anything that has been abused. I have all records and fuel longs from day one, truck averaged 23 MPG. Maybe one of you elder gentlemen are looking for something else. Am in the DALLAS/FT. WORTH area in Texas. Will pay cash. PM me please. Bobby

Pic of Truck

Trying to post the pic. The engine is shifted left towards the drivers side and and now sits at an angle in the truck, and is pushed back a few inches. The front sheet metal is shifted to the right. The cab and bed made contact also on the passengers side.

Looking at a New 5.9

Found a new 07 with the 5. 9. for $26K. Would like to have an older one if it hasn't been abused. I drove mine like an ol' man. Slow and easy. Have all the records from day one.

glad to hear you are ok. Are you planning on buying it back and parting it out? I am sure you could make some money off it if the block isnt damaged.

Definitely glad to hear you're ok... :)

Umm... if you decide to part it out, there are a couple of minor little things I could use that weren't in my truck when I bought it. Mainly, the handle/rod under the rear seat for lowering the spare tire... :(

Definitely be thankful... the last accident I saw where a car rear-ended a tractor-trailer didn't go as well... driver did not walk away... and left the scene in a van not destined for the hospital...

whistleman, glad to hear you're okay! Sorry, I don't have a truck for sale. good luck with your search. IanF, this is the reason why we drive big trucks! Lots of abuse can be taken prior to the driver getting seriously injured.

Found new truck

Prayed for a good, clean, one owner, well maintained truck. Found one in my hometown of Dayton, Texas. Knew the kid and called him. Asked if he knew anyone with a truck for sale. Said Yes. His was for sale. It is a 2000 6 speed, white quadcab short bed. Very clean, one owner well maintained and garage kept with 75000 miles, $15000. Blessed beyond.

nice score! BTW, if your 01 had the rear disk axle, I would grab that thing up. I dont know if the insurance co offered ya a buy back, but you could get money for that, or swap it into the new one, as I like the rear disk much better than the drum.

Whistleman - Glad you walked away and nice to see how well these things hold up in an accident.

Welcome to the ultra-exclusive 6 speed/ SO motor club. You'll probably do even better with MPG from your HO. Is your new truck a 2wd as well? If so, I've got its slightly older twin.

Hope the purchase goes ok as does the settlement with the ins co.

What is so special about the rear end? They're both drum brakes with 3. 55 Limited slip, Dana 80's. I had an early 01 pre rear disc brakes.
