Will Dodge come out with anything like the Ford integral towing packages in the very near future?? I would like to see the GCVW on the Dodges get up to the range of the Fords with the towing packages. I think the fords are up to 26K and the Dodges are up to 22K GCVW.

I would love to see Dodge keep up with the Jones'. However, we need to be careful about what we wish for. There are two weight thresholds that will add regulation and insurance cost to our ownership. Most trucks over 10K GVWR are considered to be commercial and "should "go through the scales in many states. The DOT has a national threshold of 25999 GCWR or less for non commercial and 26K and above for health cards, flares, ECT. I already see the targeting of 1 ton duallys in the south east. If they continue to up the weight ratings, I can see them starting to target 3500 SRW and 2500 trucks. This is attention that I do not need.

My SRW 3500 w/3. 73 is 21K, with the 4. 10 I believe it is 23K.

I think the DOT or CDL requirement limit is 26K GVW instead of GCVW. And if the vehicle is driven for private use and not for hire, even if the vehicle has a GVW of 26K or more, a CDL or weigh station stops are not required. I have been doing a lot of research on this since I have been looking at medium duty trucks to pull a fifth wheel.

And you said the one tons are being targeted. Who is doing the targeting and are the one tons pulling or hauling for hire???? That is the main decision maker in whether a vehicle gets pulled over or at least it is in TX.

Thanks for your comments.

The laws and the enforcement varies a lot state to state. GA and FL will pull over 1 tons at will. They even harass the horse trailer crowd. I think you would be safe if you were pulling a camper though. I see the Snow Birds coming down with 30 foot bumper hitch trailers behind Lincons and Caddies. Some of the front tires barley touch the ground. I also see 1/2 tons with large bumper and fifth wheels. if you can pull an 9,000 pound fifth wheel with a 1/2 ton, why are you boys worried about being 1000 lbs over with a one ton dually?

In AL the standard pick-up tag only covers up to 8K. The state DOT looks for anybody in a Diesel with a trailer. A one ton pulling a four wheeler in a trailer will likely be over the weight limit. Another favorite target is the lawn service boys.

When they find out how easy these revenue sources are, they tend to stick with them. I pay an extra $400. 00 per year for a 23K tag.
