tow hitch

I am looking at equalizer hitches. We are getting close to purchasing a travel trailer which weights in near 10,000 lbs. fully loaded. We have come across advertising for a Hensley Arrow hitch. Does anyone know how good or bad this brand of towing system is? Any comments postive or negative would be appreicated

So far Hensley has avoided quoting the price, I feel like they are preparing me for sticker shock.

We have a 2005 Dodge 2500 diesel.

I don't own one and have never looked into one but there is more reading than you can stand on the hensley hitch at www.rv.net/forums

Sticker shock is putting it mildly and I really doubt you need it.

The Hensly is great for lighter weight vehicles that a trailer may over whelm but a full size rig like yours will work fine with any normal weight dist hitch IMO.

Ditto what Prairie Dog said. Take a look at my photos and you'll see my truck and trailer. I have a Blue Ox sway pro and I don't move when semi's pass me (or I pass them) on the interstate. Only time she's ever swayed was one BIG crosswind coming through a pass in the mountains.

Hensleys are some of the best on the market, but last I looked were around $2000. I have the plain old spring bars w/chains and a single anti-sway bar on mine (about 9000# fully loaded) and haven't had any problems with it. I'm sure the Hensley would work well for you, but it is pricey. I've also heard good things about these.

I have had the hensley when I had a 28' toyhauler. the Hensley is the best. it uses a double pivot that eliminates, not reduces sway. when in straight line, there is no pivot... . it is like a 5th wheel because the truck has to make an angle to turn. I have seen a lot of TT's WITH sway controll flipped over and usually those were exiting a canyon. It is expensive but is a truly non sway hitch worth 10% of your rig? it was to me. my trailer weighed 12k and was good to pull. Its pretty easy to hook and unhook too. all you take off is the drawbar,... everything else stays perm. attached to the tongue. Call the company and see if they have a demo unit available for sale.

While I've never used the Hensley, I doubt you need it (like someone else said). My travel trailer grosses at 11,000 pounds with a 1300 pound tongue weight and it's rock solid with an E-Qual-Izer hitch. This is the second E-Qual-Izer that I've owned and like them very much.



I believe they are easier to hook up than a traditional chain style W. D. hitch and there are less things to fool around with because of the lack of a seperate sway bar.



Depending on your tongue weight, you might want their 1400 pound bar set-up if you decide to go with this brand. Better to be a little heavy than a little light, you can always adjust out some of the bar.



That's my two cents worth and it's worth what you paid for it.

I've been running the Hensley for about 5 years now. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Yes.

It's easy to hook up, doesn't sway, and makes towing over long distances tireless. No white knuckles every time a big rig appears in your mirrors and the wind is blowing. You can try one and if you don't like it, send it back. I don't think they get many returns.
