Had the dealer split the price with me from the purchase. Had em remove the air dam also, truck looks taller especially with the 3" spacers. Just incase I get stuck wheeling, I can get pulled out from the front, by only another dodge of course!! The chevys will be behind me. HEHE:eek:

I added the stock hooks myself but ignored the part of the instructions that said to remove the front bumper. That was probably a mistake as it took me hours to work around it.

Just an observation to anyone contemplating this addition, do it soon after you take delivery or the black plastic pieces (on the chrome part of the bumper) that cover the mounting threads will get dirt under them and scratch the surface of your shiny bumper. it's pretty obvious after you install the tow hooks. :(

I just ordered a towhook set from dodgeparts.com and noticed in the description "up to 5500 lbs towing capacity". When I weighed my truck last week it weighed 7300 lbs. WTF? So just in case my truck gets stuck and needs to get towed, then I might break the hooks? On the otherhand, should have no trouble towing regular lightweight gas trucks...

Tow Hooks Question

I also installed the tow hooks myself and found many extra parts, but what confused me was they gave me 8 torques thread bolts and no nuts! I had to go to a auto parts store and buy 8 HD nuts and washers, wonder what others have done???

I INSTALLED MINE MYSELF. THEY CAME WITH EVERYTHING NEEDED INCLUDING THE NUTS. TOOK THE BUMPER OFF ONLY TOOK AROUND 2 HOURS AND I WASN'T IN ANY HURRY. OH YEA NO SPARE PARTS WHEN I WAS FINISHED;) :p

Sorry about the caps I wasn't trying to yell at anyone. I normally don't type in caps I guess I wasn't paying close attention. Maybe I had one too many to drink;) ;)

Does anyone know of an aftermarket tow hook that will line up with the factory holes. I dont care for the Design of the factory hooks. Ford has some pretty nice looking hooks.

Be sure if you are adding tow hooks to a truck that never had them that you get the kit from Dodge not just the hooks from like eBay or someone who took them off thier truck. The kit contains 4 brackets that tie the hooks into the frame two on each side of the front frame horns, without the brackets there is little support and you will probably tear the front end off if you try and use the hooks to tow anything substantial. It is easy to install the brackets if you unbolt the intercooler and lift it up about an 1".

Ok need some clarification.

i have the sport package on my 03, and it has the brackets that the hook bolt to. four bolts for each hook.

is there another bracket that beefs up the "4 bolt bracket" to the frame. Am i golden just bolting up the stock tow hooks to what i have?

Pictures anyone?

here's a picture of the drivers side outer tow hook bracket. Each tow hook requires two brackets for maximum strength

You may not like the looks but its a really nice design. A standard tug-em strap goes right over the center section and is almost impossible to come off. Unfortunately I only used mine to get rescued not to rescue someone else :(

so this is one of two brackets? is this the one the hook bolt directly to. i cant tell if it has 4 holes or 2 for the hooks.

i know mine has the 4 holes, but if the bracket in the picture backs up the "4 hole" bracket then im missing one of the 2, right... ?

A truck without hooks will have the plates on the front with the 4 holes on each side, so it appears you can just bolt the hooks on. The 4 support brackets go behind the plates and tie back to either side of the frame, so when you bolt the hooks on with the brackets in place the bolt goes through 3 pieces, the tow hook, the front plates that were there, and the support brackets.

I was curious about this too, since I was stuck off the road, and down a slope in 2 ft. of snow here in Kentucky... told the tow truck driver that I didn't know how strong they were, he said "We're getting ready to find out"

LOL!

Well, he winched me up and out, took a while too, he had to move his truck 3 times, trying to maneuver me away from trees etc.

Point is he dragged me pretty much sideways for a bit of it... in snow, though, and up and onto the road, and that was hooked onto just the driver's side hook, held no problem.

Wouldn't try to have a crane pick me up and dangle by them though... . :--)

Removing the airdam exposes the ps cooler and line, intercooler and radiator to road debris.

I was contemplating an ARB aftermarket bumper until I saw that it too exposes the same area.

A local shop built me a skid pan to protect these parts until I can afford a decent bumper on this truck.
