I'm thinking of swapping out my non-electric tow mirrors on my 01 to the new electric tow mirrors that come with the 03's. My question is... is the wiring in place for the in cab "joy stick" controller???

I have a 2001. 5 that came stock with manual tow mirrors, and mine came with the wiring in place for the joystick controller. Oo.

A friend and I swapped over to the 2003 power/heated tow mirrors, both now operated by the 2001 joystick controller. :D

The swap is not a piece of cake, but once done, we were very happy.

Music to my ears Scott:) My truck is an 01. How can I tell if the wiring for the controler is in place. I poped the controler plug and I can't see any wires. I was hoping to see a pig tale just hanging there :( . I guess maybe I need to pull the door panel:{ Did you have to extend the existing wiring any?

Cliffman,

The plug that the joystick controler plugs into is mounted behind the door panel about 4" to 6" below where the joystick mounts. You'll need to remove the top mounting stud on the mirror base and replace it with a bolt to get clearance for the back of the joystick. The wires on the '03 mirrors will need to be extended by about 14" and you'll need to play around with which ones go to which ones. I had a copy of both the '01 and '03 wiring scamatics to help with this part.

BTW, I'm the friend that Scott mentioned.
