towing a load

well i towed a 12,000lb load sun on the nys thruway with my 93 4x4 auto. I was impressed with the way it handled the weight! What a truck! The pyro and trans temp were monitored and even towing in OD the temp never got over 175 with the sensor in the pan. 65 to 70 on the flats and 65 on the hills in OD! Not bad for having no under bed cooler. I know one thing i will change the converter asap. One other thing i run amsoil atf-4 in the trans (awesome fluid). ran 60 miles and i could still hold my hand on the diff cover. Had a new powerchoke go by me about 80 miles an hour but it better for 45,000 dollars and mine cost 8,000!!!!! love these turbo diesels!!

I've towed up to 18K before, but it was with a 5 speed. THese are awesome trucks; I love the torque back up on these things. I guesstimated the torque on my 92 to top 600; based on 10hp= 1psi. 20psi @ 54 mph in 5th- 3. 54- and using the formula, came up with 650 or something like that. These trucks will ot do most PSDs, even in stock form. Had a 92 auto (CTD) that I towed 9K up an 8% grade in 3rd at 38-40. Pedal 2/3 to the floor. Sounds llike you got agood one.
