This is a question for those of you who tow pretty heavy loads and see EGT's up in the 900-1000+ degf range for extended periods of time.

when towing at these temps, at what does your coolant temp run on an average.

On mi truck even if i maintain 900 degf for 15 min or more my coolant temp will run right up to 220+, never seen it over 230, just wondering if this is normal, or if i need to start panicking??

Thanx!

Nope, it shouldn't be doing that.

Better start cheking for radiator fins clogged up, fan coming on, coolant flow etc.

Rick,

On my W-250 The temp gauge needle runs in the verticle position (6:00). I think the auto makes it run hotter due to the fluid also being cooled. ON the W-350 The guage needle sometimes goes to the same position, but not near as often. It usually runs in the 7:00 position. That is towing 8-14K with either truck. Never had one overheat.
