Towing Heavy !!! Best Bombs ??? First Gen.

Need experienced help here. Perhaps Hotshots or horse trailers who pull heavy regularly. 100,000 miles/year at 20 to 26K gross.

I want power without major bucks, and must control heat. 91 does not justify major dollar investment. Long Rocky Mountain hills, and or headwind build up heat and sap power and take extra time. Presently stock injectors with factory strait pipe, stock turbo with 16cm housing. What is needed 3-1/2 or 4 inch exhaust, or ? I have to downshift on hills to control egt's 3rd on the bad ones. Thanks..... R C

Put some injectors in it, at least 50 hp, also is your "91" early or late, does it have an intercooler? With the #16 on your turbo, the extra fuel of the injectors should increase your boost at the same time. With my 1st gen. Cummins motors, as long as I do not pull hard over 2100 rpm, I can stand on the go pedal and not go over 1000 degrees post turbo.

All depends on the amount of $$ you are talking about. Start with 4" exhaust, it lowered my egts by about 150 I bought mine for around $400. 00.

Next would be the turbo, I'm really pleased with my PDRhx35, $650. 00, still haven't been able to max my pyro, then along with all of this the injectors, I have the 40hp ones, $400. 00 and they seem to work really well, I tow around 8k but its at least a 7% grade anywhere around here, and in the summer is a constant 110 F. Oh yeah I fogot a real improtant piece of the puzzle the ATS manifold, this package I have really works well, I highly recomend it. Call Piers and they can set you up.

Missing info in sig

Mine is a 91. 5 intercooled. I am hoping I can do the plug-in thing for a tach which I do need to know exactly where I am in the power curve. I can overheat if I don't watch closely on a strong hill in 4th gear. Does the manifold make a differance that affects the egt temps? Thanks... R C

I won't be able to answer that to well, I installed all the stuff at the same time, with exception to the exhaust, but buy comparing the two, the new ATS and the stock, I would definetly buy the ATS, much better flow and design. I would expect to see lower temps from the manifold alone. It will also help spool up the turbo faster, more power.

I, also, have a 91. 5, W-250. I bought an Isspro 3 3/8" tach from Rocky Mtn. Cummins, here in Phoenix. The 91. 5's do not have a plug for the tach. I believe that started is 92. There is a sensor that mounts on one of the oil pan bolts. On the bottom pulley, you glue a small magnet. The sensor goes up next to the sensor. It works just OK. The metal bracket that holds the sensor is a little thin and with viabrations, bends pulling the sensor away from the magnet. The tach works, but will fluctuate wildly, every so often. The further away, the more the fluctuation. (The needle bounces). To fix it, you get under the front of the truck and bend the sensor closer to the magnet location. I was at the SEMA Show, this year and told my story to the Isspro Rep. and he sent me a new sensor, free. Thought that was nice of them. I've been thinking about building a heavier bracket that would mount on the outside of the sensor bracket, with an adjusting screw. That should keep it in place. If You can, try to get a tach with the orange needle. It's much more visible. Hope this helps. Joe F. (Buffalo)
