We are almost home and finishing a 3000 mile RV trip. With side trips we are at 3952 miles and 316 gals of diesel for 12. 5 miles per gal. Weight 19K combined. Not bad!

What was your cruising speed on the highway?

Those are pretty good #'s!

On the non California Interstates we run about 63-64. In California we run 58-59. On the coast roads you are in 3rd a lot going up and down hills. I have 4:10's and yes I am very happy with the numbers.

My 04 3500 dually 6 speed with 4:10 axle, towing a trailer that weighs 18-20K lbs... . at legal speed limits in OR WA ID NV AZ CA UT it has averaged between 10. 5 and 12 for the past 215K miles... it has never run through a tank full of fuel without a load... .

I run between 18-20k loaded and have about 25k+ of my 43k towing and I average between 10 and 12. My 5ver has flipped axles so its way up in the air. I'm convinced that if I wasn't pulling such a sail my mileage would be better but still who could complain with thes kinds of mileages. It seems that speed has not much effect on my mileage either I find my best mileage at about 60 but in the mountains on the long straight uphills I usually run it up to 70 and have to shift less. Well until the EGT hits 1100 then I shift.

Ran 2000 miles through the Southwest at the end of the summer - ~22,000# GCWR (truck, fifth wheel, 5 of us for 9 days) running most 68 or so on I-40, 55 in California, averaged 10. 96 hand calculated.

Albuquerque to LA to Las Vegas to Albuquerque.

My trailer is raised also. 12'8". Zion tunnel is 13. 1. Scary!!!!! I think the areo front and rear caps on my Cadinal help the mileage.

BTW way, home sweet home. Other than a little hard starting in really hot weather, it and the trailer performed great. Did 4200 miles with side trips in 5 weeks. Need a bigger turbo, as HY-35 runs out of air in really hot high areas. Anyone have a HX-35 for later 2nd gens setting around?

We used Microsoft streets and trips on a laptop for nav and it worked great.

I just got back from a short tow [ first tow with my dodge ] about 600 miles and only averaged 11 mph. i thought i should have done better but it seems i'm in the ball park. my rig is not as high as some but i push a lot of wind, 11'4" . back when diesel was 1. 00 to $1. 60 a gallon i looked at a wing to go on top of my cab to direct the wind up over my rig. the wing makers were claiming 10 to 20% increase in mph. at the time with those fuel prices i didn't think it was worth it. at the time it was about $600. but with todays fuel prices? they also claimed it would keep most of the bugs off your trailer. Has anyone tried one? robert

I thought about a wing just like you especially with the high fuel prices so I went to some forums. Every post I read said that the wings were a waste of money. I am not claiming this as fact just what I read; the commercially available p/u wings are too far away from the trailer to effectively divert air. (take a look at how close the fairings on semi's are) Also mentioned were the fact that the wings are much narrower than the trailer. I wish I could remember the forums I read ,one guy had made his own wing that was adjustable so when he was on a straight road he could close the gap between wing and trailer. A few of the posts stated that they thought the wing was worth the elimination of most of the bugs. No-one in those posts claimed a significant increase in fuel mileage although some thought that their rigs seemed more stable. Hope this helps... . aah I remember one of the forum names openroads forum...
