Towing Mirror broke - Can I lube?

Well, I flipped up the passenger side mirror on the weekend and tried to adjust it... the mirror broke!



I also noticed that both mirrors are very difficult to adjust... they just seem too hard to move... . as evidenced by me breaking one. Is there a way to lube whatever pivotpoint is inside the mirror?

If you are still in warranty, the dealer should be able to replace it.

while adjusting mine the mirror fell into my hand. the mirror was very hard to adjust. while the mirror was out i removed the star (lock nut washer) and separated the three pieces. i filed the white center cone tabs a tiny bit. use a small amount of wheel bearing grease and reassembled. i pounded the star back into its normal position,used a long 3/8 socket that fit over the plastic stud the nut went on. pound the star on and adjust the mirror,,,still loose pound it on a little more. i reattached the mirror with epoxy. ken
