Broke the rt. side mirror and housing on my truck(tree didn't yield row). I have the factory towing mirrors with elect heat and adjustment, I am wondering if I can buy a new assy. and just replace the outer arm and mirror housing/glass without having to go into the door guts? Hove located the assy for about $400. 00 plus shipping/etc. Any experience/ideas? bg

It shouldn't be necessary to tear into the door to replace the mirror. Is that what you're asking?

Remove the door trim panel - piece of cake (a few screws, NO plastic tabs!). Unscrew mirror and remove electrical connector.

Installation is the reverse.

Mirror Replacement

I just purchased a new power/heated flip out mirror from discountautomirror.com. It was $123. 00 plus $12. 00 S/H. Looks just like the factory mirror @ 1/3 the price. I haven't installed it yet, but the quality seems to be good. The dealer here wanted $ 447. 00 for the left one OR $395. 00 for BOTH!?!?!? (an accessory package)

If you install in near future, let me know how it goes. I was wondering if it is possible to just replace the arm from the fold back joint outward??? bg

i replaced the drivers mirror on my 07... i literally did it in a parking lot as my trailer was getting loaded. i believe there is 3 screws on the inner door panel, 3 bolts hold the mirror on, and one power harness u unplug. took 5 minutes. my only complaint is the mirror i got was off ebay, and it is really cheap quality... .

RNewberry, let us know if the mirror u got from discountautomirror is as good/better than the factory. the one i got from ebay is really really wobbly... not the arm, but the actual mirror itself. and i cant figure out how to tighten the glass part up

You don't even have to remove the door panel to replace. (I switch back and forth spring and fall)

There is a single screw holding the small triangular part of the door panel against the door. When that is removed, it will flex back enough to get to the 2 nuts and electrical connector. The third nut is exposed and in the hinge area.

I don't know about the Dodge but last December I replaced the drivers mirror on my wife's Honda Pilot and it was really easy. I hit a large Hawk at about 70 mph and it broke the mirror housing pretty badly. Stupid bird cost me $250. I looked at my truck and it looks pretty easy too. Thanks for the info on the mirror site, I've bookmarked it if I ever need one for the truck.

I ordered the Kool Vue mirror, $132. 00 to the door. It looks exactly like the factory and has heat to the convex as well. I just installed it, took 28 minutes form when I left the front door of house to finish. You will need a 10mm socket or wrench (I used a 1/4" ratchet/socket) and at least a #$3 phillips screwdriver. It took me longer to figure out how to unplug the power supply than it did to do the job I think. The release button on the electric plug is on the bottom and you just depress it to release. Because it is cold right now and I was afraid I would break the plastic door panel, I removed the screw near the mirror, the screw behind the door handle and two screws from the bottom of the panel, then just lift up on panel and it can be moved back slightly to allow access to the mirror screws. Thanks all and Merry Christmas. bg
