What one do you guys like better? I have been looking at the CIPA extendable towing mirrors and the PowerVision towing mirrors. I like the factory Dodge towing mirrors but now power or heat, so those are out of the question. I'm going to buy a set here pretty soon and need just a few of your opinions to steir me in the right direction. They are both about the same $$$ just curious if one is better than the other.

Thanks

Darrell

My PowerVisions were about a 3-5 hour install, but they're worth it! The power extend/retract feature is especially nice. My only gripe is that the passenger mirror is flat instead of convex, so its field of vision is somewhat limited compared to the factory electric/heated mirrors I removed.

I use McKesh removable mirrors, and like them very much. When I am not towing these mirrors are stored in the back of the truck.

McKesh for me also, I tried those clip on and slide on things, what a waist, I thought I could see until I put on the McKesh, man what a difference. I have recomended they to everybody that asks. There around $130. 00 for the pair if I remember correct. Been using them for 2 years, no scratches on the truck to date (at least from the mirrors)

For those of you that just tow now and then, the cost of the Power Visions my seem steep. Now that I have them, I would pay twice as much as I did if I had to replace them. I hope I never have to fool with those stupid little clip ons again! I love my Viagra Mirrors!!!!

Thanks

Thanks guys, I didn't have time to buy and install any before this weekend. When I get back Monday I'm going to look at the PowerVisions,(they sell them at the camper place) and take another look at the CIPA's too. Can't wait to get them on and be able to see around my camper. :)

Thanks again

Darrell

I have the CIPA's that I got from Geno's. I'm very pleased with them. As far as power extending and retracting, it only takes a second to pull them out or push them back. They only took about an hour to install and they plug right into your door socket so you retain all the power features your truck has from the factory. Geno includes a couple of matching convex CIPA stick ons in case you want the convex feature too. The mirrors are so big that in my opinion you don't need the convex add ons. I might add that they mount up real solid. Slamming the doors doesn't shake them at all.

DarrelB,

Do you have the factory tow mirrors now? If you do you can convert them to power/heat. Well, it's not that simple ,but it can be done and they're, way cool!!

I did it to mine, what you need to do is goto DC (I know thats bites) and get the power/heated mirror kit from a '03 (new body style) and then just switch the bases from yer truck to the new mirrors. It's a little more involved than that, but in a nutshell, thats it.

If ya wanna know the whole deal, PM me, I'll give ya my phone#, 'cause it's much easier to explain over the phone.

I've been thinkin about that

Rob,

I was thinkin about doing that but here's the bad new, I don't have the factory towing mirrors. :( They were not offered in the early 99 model year. :( What I thought of doing is trying to find a set at a junk yard. Just the bases that is, and then buying the new 03 mirrors and doing the conversion. :) The thing is I don't go to junkyards very often and don't know if the mirrors would likely survive very long in one. I think when I get back form camping Monday I will call around and see what I can find. I would much rather have the Dodge towing mirrors because they look the best out of any of the towing mirrors out there. :p And it would be way cool to brag about my new power, heated, factory towing mirrors at the next TDR event. ;) About how much were the 03 towing mirrors from Dodge? If this cost much more than the PowerVisions or the CIPA's I will go with them instead.

Thanks

Darrell

Yea, I brag about 'em all the time!:-laf The mirror kit is $374+tax

Do you have power/heated small mirrors now? If you don't you'll also need to buy a switch-$21. I think thats still about $100 cheaper than aftermarket ones.

EDIT IF yer going ta Muncie, I'll be there, and you can check 'em out, I can also explain in full detail, how to do it.

Yea

Sounds like a plan Rob, I'll be there bright and early Saturday morning. I'm going to wake everyone up with the sweet music of the strait piped Cummins. :p

I'll start calling around Tuesday of next week and see if I can find a wrecked Dodge with some towing mirrors, or at leased the bases anyway. :p

See ya at Muncie

Darrell, I'll be the one with stacks, ok,maybee not the most obvious description, I'll be the one with stacks and a dump bed, I'm sure that'll narrow it down, and it's green with "Great Outdoors Company" on the Quad windows. See ya there!
