Hey everybody, got a question about towing. My friend's truck broke down, and he's got a vacation planned this weekend. His camper weighs around 8,500 lbs give or take fully loaded with all his gear. I know that's right at the limit for these first gens with the automatic. How do they do with that kind of weight? It's a standard hitch, not a gooseneck or 5th wheel. Truck has 205,000 miles. Transmission seems to be in perfect working order, it shifts smoothly, no problems that I can tell. I have the under bed aux cooler as well as the stand alone cooler in front of the radiator. And full instrumentation (tach, trans temp, pyro, boost and fuel pressure). Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

I was gifted a ‘92 D250 auto by a fellow that had used it to pull a 5th wheel camper. I have no idea what size it was or what it weighed, but I’d guess a “medium” sized one. He had pulled it to almost every state and to Alaska three times. It had a BD built A518 with two aux coolers under the bed.

Thanks. I believe mine had a 5th wheel in it at some point in its life based on the evidence in the bed. Was just curious as to how well the trucks handled as far as going and stopping and getting blown around the road. There are some steep grades on the route to his camp site. He's got a 2012 F350 non dually... quite a bit more capable than these old relics haha. Hope I get my baby back in one piece!

The ol gal did fine. Much slower than his truck, but he said it wasn't as scary as he thought it'd be haha. Transmission did get a bit warm on long grades though. Got up to 220.
