Grease question

I thought I should post how our camper pulled coming from Oregon back home to Wyoming. I had asked before about if I needed a weight distributing hitch or sway control. I decided to just give it a shot and order the stuff later if I felt I needed it.

Well, I did put airbags on the truck, because we take the four wheeler with us when we go, other than that, just a stock Dodge pickup. The Arctic Fox 22H is not a real heavy camper, but is something like 4500 lbs. The camper pulled perfect behind the truck. I was a little nervous about it when we first got going, but it didn't take long to get comfortable with the setup. We hit several rough spots in the road, got passed by semi's on two lane roads, and all your usual stuff. Never a hint of sway, never any bouncing, never any pushing the truck around.

I am glad I did not fall for the hype found on rv.net about the weight hitches. It would be a waste of money for this setup.

You did well. Good report. It says a lot for your truck and the camper. I'm not convinced that you even needed the air bags. Which Arctic Fox dealer did you buy the camper from in Oregon and did they make you a better deal then you could have gotten in Wyoming? I will be ordering an 08 AF 5er and am considering a dealers in La Grande, Oregon.

Thunder RV in LaGrande. They beat everybody. By a lot.

It worked out great, we ordered exactly what we wanted, drove there to get it. We even toured the factory, which was very cool, I recommend that for sure.

Thanks. that's about what I thought. They sound like good people.

So far Thunder RV gave me the best price of all the dealers I contacted in the Western and Northwestern US. I didn't contact all dealers, but a whole bunch of them. I just never tell any dealer what other dealer I have talked to. We also plan on taking the tour.

Are you planning any trips soon?

Be sure to check out

Apache Camping Center in Portland - I think their $$$ are impossible to beat on Arctic Fox and Nash... ... ... ... they are their largest dealer... ... they have 3 stores - 1 in Portland - 2 in Washington (general Seattle area).....

Thanks for the tip. I will do that. I hadn't even heard of them. Do you have a phone number or web site for them?

The 22H is fine with a plain ball mount with air bags. I do what ever I need to for a level ride and if sway becomes an issue you'll know it and won't have to ask if you need sway control. I didn't use sway control till I got over 30' with my dually's. My past AF 31W needed sway control. My current 43' 5th wheel does fine without sway control :-laf;):-laf;)

The 22H is a great little unit, enjoy... ... .

hammersley and BBeck, what salesman did you talk to because I not getting a good quote from the salesman I spoke to.

Welcome to the Apache Camping Center - Portland, Oregon

Above is the link for the Portland store.

I spoke to Kevin, the owner of Apache Camping. He quoted me the highest price I have received yet for an Arctic Fox 5er. When I asked for a better price, Kevin got very rude and nasty and told me that he had given a better price then any other dealer would make. I told him that his quote was by far the highest I have received. He called me a liar. Nasty people.
