My 8 month project!

Tow Mirrors

Got my Smarty in November and truck is not used much in winter except for snowplowing my driveway. Doesn't go out when there is salt on the roads. Only driven on nice sunny days. So I have not towed anything until yesterday.

Holy $?*%. Was I inpressed. I had the Jeep on the car hauler and this truck acted like a totally different animal. Low rpm accelaration is awesome. I had a $?*% eatin grin on my face all afternoon. And this was only level 5. Gotta watch the EGT's more closely. :-laf

Jeepit, dont you love it when the truck does "New tricks" LOL

does the Smarty have a good "towing setting"???

I was thinking about getting it for My tow rig.

But also looking at the juice W/ADD. for the simplicity and the fact that I wont have to spent more money on gauges

I prefer the lower settings, 3 and 5 for towing. The higher ones play tricks on my cruise control:-laf I mostly leave it on SW9 all the time and control smoke with my right foot, it can be done but it takes some practice.

The Smarty is by far the best tuner on the market for towing... . the juice is awesome for all around pleasure. You can't go wrong with a juice, but you gotta try both together... . WOW!

which one is timing?? which is fuel pressure??

Now that youve got my att. :-laf

I tow on #9, RV275 injectors and a TST. I'm surprised my transmission is still holding it. It's just a stockish rebuild with a cheap torque convertor.

The Smarty has setting that add timing & settings that add no timing. You run Smarty on settings that do not add timing & it works great with the Edge. The juice does timing & fuel. Together... . the shiznit!

You can see my sig for all the garb I have on my truck. I wish the smarty was available when i started this journey years ago. I have said it before and will again. If I were starting over, the smarty would be my first upgrade. Heck I would program it at the dealer before I drove it home. :-laf

The odd-numbered settings add timing. Nothing is "fuel pressure". We are talking about the 2nd Gen (VP44) Smarty here. Settings 2 and above all add fuel. #2 & #3 are the stock fueling program. #4 and above are progressively more "aggressive" CaTCHER programs. I normally tow on #3, but I'm trying #5 this trip. I find the throttle to be too sensitive at the higher settings.

When not towing, I usually run #7 or #8, depending on my smoke tolerance.

Non-towing I'm on #9 24/7.
Towing I'm on #5 or #7 because the cruise control doesn't surge as much and still plenty of power for my needs. I've done the WD-40 spray stem fix in the vacuum line too and it only diminishes the surging a small amount.

AutoZone has a Plastic tube connector with a orfice installed. Don't remember the part number. It and a short piece of tubing steadies out the cruise control.

Mine is stuck on 9 :) and has been for a long time. I tow all the time.
JKinney, are you at all concerned about towing on #9 with a stock clutch? My truck is almost the same as yours, but I have been a little chicken to go over #5 for fear of slipping the clutch.
