Maximum Trailer Weight Rating ?

1st tow with Edge EZ (long)

New to the list, new to Dodge/Cummins:

Bought used '01 HO 6S and am headed to Canada soon..... towing 3000# with 500# in the bed..... stock MichelinLTX tires... ... . side walls say 80psi/door jam says 80psi, both at max gvw..... which I'm way under..... can I run lower pressures to improve the ride (snow plow prep in Santa Barbara!!!) without a safety problem? Bruce Armstrong

I've had problems with over inflation wear so here's what I'm doing now. I keep my fronts at 55 psi no matter what my load. I've found that even when towing my 5er, it only adds 50# to the front axle. On the rear, I run about 75#. That's proportional to the weight I'm carrying on that axle to the axle rating. When I'm empty, I put 45# in the rear. I'm hoping I can get more than 30,000 miles out of my tires doing it this way.

Being in the RV Biz, I never know when or what I am going to haul. Therefore, I keep my tires at max pressure all the time and generally get 65K plus miles out of a set of tires. I have always run Michleins on my 00,01 and my 02. My 03 has Good for a Year tires on it so we will see... ... ... ..... Good Luck!

On my 98 2500, even at 45 psi empty I was wearing the centers of the Badyear RT's out. I ended up running 30-35 psi empty with good results.

If I don't get at least 40k out of my Les Shwab tires, I'm gonna look at Michelins next time. I like Schwab because they really take good care of you and they are everywhere out here in the west.

I have run 2 sets of Michelin's on my PU. The first set lasted for 60000 miles, and the set that I have on now have 72000 and are good hopefully for another 4-6000 miles. I will replace them again with Michelin's. I travel mostly on ranch and oilfield roads. So this tire has performed excellently in my book. I also haul about 14-15000 lbs. on a gooseneck. I run 75# in all four tires @ all times.

Find a scale, weigh the rig. Use the inflation chart that came with your truck.

My 93 rear tire pressures(SRW) were 75 loaded and 35 empty. (5THwheel)

My02 only needs 40 loaded and 32 empty(DRW)

How do you inflate your tires?

Ok - I've tried to get my tires up to 65 for towing. But my little Emglow Power mate (4 gal, 110 psi) cant seem to get 'em over 52 psi. It also wouldnt get my trailer tires up to the rated pressure. I've tried two local gas stations (the air island), and have had the same result.

I'd love to upgrade my compressor, but dont have the $ to do that. What do you guys do?
