Who out there is towing another vehicle while carrying a slide-in (extended) camper? I have a Bigfoot 3000 slide-in camper and on occassion I would like to tow a Durango behind the truck? What methods are being used? Should I tow the Durango on a trailer or straight? I have been considering a Reese Titan Class V with an extension, but would like to hear about other options. Additionally, since my slide-in sits rather high, it is probably possible to tow the right kind of trailer without using an extension at all. Thanks for the ideas,

Hey Dave, I run a 9' 10" slide in and pull my "Jeep" on an 18' trailer (jeep + trailer= 6800lbs). The rear of my camper is also higher than the bumper. Before i bought my trailer I had to use one of those extension deals with the loaner. It sucks. To much flex. The loaner trailer had a permanent mounted jack through the coupler and wouldn't clear the camper. My trailer has a pivot type jack on the side of the "A" frame, when folded up the trailer goes right under the camper. I also use a Roto Ez type drop hitch which by design moves the ball back about 4" compared to a standard Reese type drop.

As for a trailer or flat towing. TRAILER they have brakes. Plus no wear and tear on the towed vehicle, and you can back up.

If anybody decides to use the Reese Titan V system, email me because I have a slightly-used Reese extension I'll sell cheap. #ad

I have been towing a 7 to 9,000# cargo traier behind a dodge with a Alpinlite 9. 5' camper for about 150,000 miles. First on a 2500 and now on a ETH 3500. The 3500 ETH works MUCH BETTER than the 95 2500 did!!! I installed a Reese titan hitch and built my own extension. I have had no problems with the hitch . I wouldnt tow with a lighter or stock hitch with an extension. My extension has two extra recievers on the outer sides of the hitch (in line with the frame mount plates) From there I built a A frame hitch it has 3 recievers. I dont get the sway or bounce that I got from the stinger extension. If you need more info Email me.

dresslered,
I tow a 10k flatbed &an 8k horse trailer behind my 10ft Artic Fox slide in. I built
tongue extensions on my trailers because in my opinion there is no safe hitch ext. I work
in a trailer shop. We repair trailers, install
hitchs,(rec. - g. n. & 5th whl) I've seen
broken hitchs,bent trailer tongues& wrecked
trailers because of them. If a hitch ext. was
my only option I would either get a shorter
camper or quit towing. just my opinion

Hey thanks for the good inputs. I'm in no real hurry as I believe that the towing with the camper will only be on special occassions. Would really like to see some setups in person. Has anyone heard of a hitch that I have seen that puts the pivot point closer to the rear axle (mounted underneath the bed)? I've seen this a couple of times during my commute and it looks interesting-just not sure how he gets to the spare tire.

I use the extension, and pull horse trailer or an 18ft flatbed. My camper is a ten footer, and I wanted a stron extension, as my father-in-law has had an extension bow on him! Check out my hitch and extension at: www.torklift.com
