for those with 3. 73 rear end, are the 315's and 35" tires too big for towing with stock setup. i remember going from 265's to 285's with my 2001 and 4. 10 end and could tell a difference. only tow about 5-6k , but do not want to be runnning around in 5th if i hit any kind of hill. anybody towing with them?

While not ideal,it's definately doable. I have been towing a 14,000 pound boat with out to much trouble, but that on flat land in Florida. My new truck is a 4. 10 with 315's and its much better. Basically a 373 puts you around a 355 with the 315's. and a 410 with 315's put you back to a 373.

Having 3. 73's I prefer the stock tires over the 315's while pulling heavy. It can be done with either comfortably if you aren't pulling too much load. One option if you don't feel you have enough power is to get a fuel box for the truck. Nothing makes up for proper gearing.

I just got a 31ft 5th wheel yesterday and I was impressed with how well this truck pulled that things around. I don't now how it pulls it with out the edge chip though. . I'll take it out and pull it around and let you know. I believe it weighs about 9500lbs. It sure looks good on the back of the truck.

Mine seems to tow fine. . when I tow I take my ez from level 6 to level 4. . with my foot to the ground I will only hit 1325 or so. transmission is holding fine. I believe that it would be hard on my transmission when my hp levels get higher. But towing 9k+ is no problem for this truck. I'll be towing the 5th again this weekend and I'll try towing stock and let you know think.

CLAYTON I'm not trying to be a pain in the arse, but I have yet another question.

Are you using the boost elbow? I have not tried mine with the elbow because the EGT's have been fine on level 4.

1155F is the max I have gotten.

Boost runs at 24. 1 without the elbow.

What readings are you getting for boost?

Thanks

I haven't used the boost elbow. . the most boost I have seen was 28lbs . . usually with WOT I will hit 26-27lbs of boost. I don't know how much elevation has to do with it but I am about 4500 ft + or - here.

whats the problem w/going up a hill in 5th gear? thats what its there for. even an auto transmission downshifts on a hill.

This might be a little off subject but when I got my truck last summer... ... ... . me being new to diesels... ... ... . and blowing up a 1500 rearend... ... ... . I had just 165 miles on the truck and I hooked up a 30 TT and towed it for 250 miles and it towed like it wasnt even there I mean I was in OD and cruising at 70. Now that I have the 315's I am interested as well how it will tow with the final drive I have.

I hope it will be as good as it was with the 265's
