Kurt Yardley (Kwikkurt) installed some modifications for me. Here’s a list of the mods and a brief review of my first towing experience with them:
Mods:
DDIIs
KS B-1 Turbo
SB OFE clutch
Comp Box
Lift pump replaced (Carter P4601 HP) and relocated
Stacks (stack pictures)
Towing:
- Outside temp ~35 degrees
- Elevation range 6500’-7300’
- I have a Mega Cannon air filter
- Towed from Albuquerque, NM to Farmington, NM and back (~160 miles each way).
- Trailer weight ~7K lb.
-
In 6th gear, with cruise control set at 70 mph, and comp on 3-3 I never hit 1200 degrees. When I hit a hill, most of the time it would hit 1100 and sit there as the boost increased. Boost on hills ranged from 20-37 psi. I hit 37 going up a very steep hill, but temp was still under 1200. I tried towing on 5-5 and it was fine -- boost built up faster and temp remained under 1200 on some pretty good hills – If I was towing more weight, I’m sure I couldn’t tow on 5-5, but for 7K lb. it was fine. Stack noise while towing in 6th gear was very loud until I got over 1900 rpm; I towed at 70 mph most of the time and that got the rpm up to 2000 and the noise was fine. Fuel pressure was very stable, ranging 9-13 psi.
This is a great combination for towing. The KS B-1 is a great turbo for towing!!!
