Just thought I would broadcast some info that I would have liked to have had before I bought my POD's. First off, the load: New Holland Ls160 skid steer, tooth bucket and grapple bucket, 18' 3K lbs trailer, and skid loader and buckets approx. 6800 lbs say total 9000 lbs. My truck is a w-350 club cab with tool boxes full of junk and weighs in the high 7's. I didn't have to pull any major hills, we don't really have them here :D Just rolling hills, and I was able to maintain 65-70 mph, egts were scary at times 900-1200 (never sustained more then 10 seconds tops), and boost ran from 10-32 psi, but remember, I could not floor the thing due to egt probs. Nascar Mark, Piers, I will be ordering some goodies to fix that soon. Over all, I got what I expected, and after I put the 16 housing on the turbo, I will be interested to see what happens then... . would love to have a port/polished head, noticed PDR promotions DOH!!!! Oh well, thanks PDR, it is great to get the stares while towing with the old truck, people just don't expect it hehehe :D

I have my truck set up where I can run all day at 70mph with temps no more than 1250*. This is pulling a 24' ft GN generally loaded and grossing 12,000-17,000 + the weight of the truck. I can hit 1350* if on a long grade and push my foot through the floor. Otherwise, I never get above 1250*. This is all with a 18. 5cm housing. I usually have plenty of go pedal left, unless the wind is really howling. I would not be worried at all about those temps, unless like I asked above and you are mounted post turbo. Heck I can hit 1200* just nailing it from a stop.

Are you post turbo? Pre turbo like me and I don't get worried until 1300+ in rolling hills. 1200 ain't no probelm.

Reminds me of the back of a semi sleeper in the shop one time.

Load it like a frieght train

Fly it like a jet plain!

Sorry for being a wuss, but I had been working for the blue C up until recently, and I tend to imagine what is going on in the combustion chambers too much, then I get scared. The pyro is mounted pre-turbo, and I think that the 16 housing will be a better choice, I have learned a lot in the past three years with these engines, and they can be pushed lightyears further then what I have done..... I just want mine to last. Once I build my puller then I might not care so much, but for now LOL :D Next endeavor is to retro 370 nozzles on the old injectors, exspensive, yup, worth it, I'll find out and let you know. I understand that they flow less than the POD's, but I could do without the smoke at and off idle.

With the 370s being 4 holers as well, you might not gain too much, but hten you never know. Talk to Piers or Nascar Mark, they undoubtedly can point you toward something a little less pricey. If you want reduced smoke and keep your power, try this site- www.f1diesel.com The 370 injectors flow a little less than the PODs; unless you have your own test stand and other shop equip to do it, you may not gain anything.

I've had my pickup up to 1350 a few times; pegged my 40 psi guage this morning at 30 deg outside.

Russell,

You are correct that the 16cm housing will help on the hard pulls. I ran the 12cm housing while doing some testing and did some towing at the same time. I found the 12cm great at low rpm's but way to hot on the top end. One hill in particular was 6 miles of 19 % grade and the max psi I could run with out going over 1200 deg's was 28psi which is too high to run at, as water temps and transmission temps climb real fast at 1200 deg's. Even less steep graded hills were too hot for my likening as the engine gets chocked off with the 12cm housing.

When I ran with my 16cm housing and hit those same hills, my mph and boost was higher and water temps took longer to come up due to more air flowing over the rad and intercooler.

You would think the 12cm would allow more usable boost over the 16cm while towing but this just isn't so on the top end.

For those that don't do any highway towing, the 12cm will work just fine.

getting hot

:( Getting hot is my major concern too. Egts at 1350 are off limits, but easy to get to loaded. Pulling the traveltrailer and quads I always have way more power left in the hill that i can't use because of the egts. A sixth gear would help keep the rpms up and temps down, but for now, I just down shift and hold a steady speed to the top. I run a blast of fresh air in from the grill to the air box to help cool and I'm not as heavy as you guys. Air in air out and that is the key. Tim

Daniel,

Thanks for the heads-up. I have a shop close by that will not have a problem with the work. I am simply trying to lessen the idle/off idle smoke that I get, and get away from the slight load up smoke that the POD's get. I love the way they run, but if I can get a hair better personallity out of another option for road use, I am going to try it. :)

Mark,

You get the I told you so: I have learned a lot, and the 12 spool-up is nice at lower rpms/Hp, but the POD's and the 12 are like a double negative, one is saying go, and the other one is saying whoa. I'll be on the phone tommorrow :D I can't wait for the higher end Hp!
