I have been using a Mega Cannon for about 2 months now and I tow daily in excess of 20K GCW (have tractor business). Back in '96 I installed a #5 plate in a 215 pump which is supposed to be a no no due to high EGTs. I immediately started a quest to improve airflow into and out of the Cummins. I tried several types of filter systems and settled on one similar to the Scotty system with a RE0880, a pre filter and an insulated housing made from air conditioning ducting. I did this about 2 years prior to Scotty coming out with his design. It worked the best at keeping EGTs down. I also use an exhaust blanket on my manifold and turbo. The only air the filter got was cold ram air through the fender opening and the hole I cut in the front cowling. With this set up I could use the fueling and up to 42 lbs boost.
I recently went to the Afe because I thought the filter media might be a little better than the K&N and the inside reverse cone looked like it might help to flow more air (straighten out air pattern preventing turbulence). I did put some insulating material on the filter housing to help keep it cool but it is not a totally sealed unit like my previous design. The good news is that my EGTs are the same even with the ability of this filter to pull in some of the hot engine compartment air. We had really hot days last week and I had a chance to pull some long hills with outside air temperatures in the 90's with great results. Here is an example of what I was seeing. Outside air - 93 degrees, long steep hill, boost 33lbs. ,4th gear O. D. (Gear Vendors), rpm - 2000, speed - 60 mph, GCW - 22,000lbs, EGT post turbo - 800 degrees.
So far I am very pleased with the Mega Cannon. Time will tell how well the filter media does its job as I drive a lot of dusty roads.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
