Bought the standard box and now I would like to upgrade to the race box. Looking for a little more on the bottom end response.

Has anybody towed with this and the 60hp setting? How were your egts?

Afraid to give up the 30hp setting in case things heat up to much.

I am mainly running stock on an 03 HO with 285s and my max load would be a 7000lb travel trailer loaded.

Also when you played in the 140hp setting did you have any problems with the auto trans, such as slipage, ect. ?

Thanks guys.

I have towed on both 60 and 100hp settings, no problems. Egts will peak 50*to 100* hotter than before and linger a little longer but its nothing unmanageable. I'm at 6000' here. 140hp setting no problems, would never ever try to tow with it though. Allways keep transmission in 3rd {tow-haul}:under 55mph empty, under 65mph towing, and when making a hard accelleration. Besides gauges I would recommend a 4"exhaust and A. F. E. intake.

Not sure how heavy you are towing but I run my box at 60 stacked with a VA at 50% and towing 6-7k has not been a problem. i have not had a real heavy load on it to test any further.

Race Box !?

That's a long way from a 65 HP towing box ;) I have experenced no problems with EGTs towing heavy on the 60HP setting, even it these little ol' Appalachan Hills out here in the east. Can't speak to the trans. issue, I have the 6 spd.

Don't worry, be HAPPY :D

Talked to Stan today at Quad and he said the 60hp and 100hp settings were the same on both boxes.

I know though that I read somewhere, that he said the "on demand" power came on sooner in the race box.

Now I am confused..... :(

I think you'll find stock hides are 265s.

So far I have only had a chance to tow around 6000lbs. with the Quad. Had the EZ {set to level 5} on the truck previously and have towed up to 13000lbs. with no problems.

Power comes on quicker in the Race box. Not a ton, but it does come on quicker.

But not enough to feel or make any difference?

Was looking for a little more initial power. Such as a dead stop acceleration and/or throttle feel.

Thanks

It is noticable, but not huge. The problem is that we all have opinions and in my opinion I would notice the difference easily. I have heard others say they don't see that much?? I just would rather underpromise and be onthe mark than over promise and under deliver.

The box is supposed to have a stock type feeling. That is the way we designed it. I could easily custom tune it for you, but I am afraid I would get into a nightmare with custom tuning. It is about all we can do to keep the normal modules built and not backordered.

Maybe I could build some software that would allow people to do their own custom tuning? Geez, I should have never said that, but maybe sometime this summer we can work on something like that?

Worse case scenario, if you don't like the race box you can always go back to whatever version you want.

Don't get me wrong, I like your product. Its the best bang for the buck out there.

I'm just a guy coming from a 7. 3 V8 to a 5. 9 inline 6. Just missing some of that low end torque and trying to get it back.

I guess its just the nature of the beast?

I appreciate you standing behind your product.

After I hear/read a few more opinions I may take you up on the upgrade. :)

I love this idea! I have had something similar on my race bikes for a few years now. The "Power Commander" from Dynojet is a box for EFI motorbikes, allowing you to custom tune the fuel and ignition maps, or use maps that have been professionally done. They give you the software with the box, but most people just use maps made for bikes with similar mods as theirs. I have been thinking about this idea for Diesel Tuning for a while now. I think you are on the right track Quad!

A lot of people need to remember that ALL common rail motors like to rev. Yes I know that they make low end torque, but these motors are meant to rev much more than the older engines, 5. 9, 7. 3L etc. You can get the low end out of these new ones, but it comes at a price.

A good example of extreme bottom end is the VA duration box. It is killer off the bottom, but for most people it is almost useless as egt's are way high. Now once you get past 2,000 rpm's it dies off quickly. It is a give-take compromise.

The software may come into existance at some point in the near future. The main problem is finding a way to flash it that is easy for the end user. I will keep you updated in the future.
