Towing?

Ok I purchased our first travel trailer and dry weight is about 6400Lbs. I was looking at the capacity of my truck which is 9000lbs. for trailer weight. i have the CA Auto model and noticed with the HO/auto model it jumps up to 13000lbs for trailer weight, all other specs seem to be the same. My question is if I add more power to make up the 70HP and torque will I be able to tow 13000lbs. ?



Also is their anything special i should watch on the diesel as opposed to the gas motor?

Are you sure the 9000lbs you are referring to is the "towing" capacity. I could see the Cal. models being a little less in the GVWR and GCWR... but not by 4,000 lbs.



I think the 9,000 lbs is your "truck's" GVWR... . The 2500 hemi's are rated to tow more than 9,000 lbs.

I got it from the Dodge site on the towing section. it said max trailer weight is 9,000lbs. with the 3. 73 AR. I think the Hemi does tow more then the Cummins, at least in CA.

I think the hemi is rated for more because its a lighter truck then the cummins.

I have the Ca. Ram SO. I have towed a 5000lb. trailer with three horses plus tack and feed, I figure somewhere close to 10,000lbs. and the truck did a fine job. Ran in overdrive untill truck started downshifting on its own, then turned overdrive off over Questa Grade.

I just checked Dodge's site and it looks like the tow ratings for 2004 is longer complete. I went and entered data for a 2003 model and came up with the same info I got when I checked on the 2004s about 6 months ago. For the California SO, 4X4, Auto it shows 10,000 for the 3. 73 diff and 12,000 for the 4. 1 diff. Hope this helps. I have no problems with a 25ft Jayflight, about 7,000 pounds, and about 600 pounds in the PU bed. Everything stock except for the spray in bed liner.
