Scotty II question

Little help?

I've had my Toyo M-55's for about 6500 miles and I was noticing that the outside of the front tires seems to be wearing faster. I would say its about 1/16 shorter at the outside edge then the inside edge. Truck drives fine and I had it aligned right before I got the new tires (Camber was set to . 5' left/ . 7' right). Both fronts are wearing the same.

I was going to pick up a 5th tire and do a 5 wheel rotation but now I'm having 2nd thoughts about mixing a new tire in.

Anyone else have this?

Rotate them. I have never rotated the spare in, not saying you should or shouldn't. I front to rear swapping sides and rear to front same side. I used this pattern on an old 4x4 Chevy and had very good results keeping tire wear fairly even. I rotate every 5,000 and balance every 10,000. Down here in the curves and the way most of us drive, it works the best to get the most out of our tires.

i was told with thicker material down center you will see thinning in center before the out side. had 8k on my 04 4x4 with 265-75-16 at 60 psi front 50 rear empty . back to 60 with trailer. traded old truck and now have 06. les schwab told me to lower psi to get better wear but i find you need more psi with a diesel. rotated every 5k. i was worried that in snow the tread in center would be a problem. with out getting there i don't know. i had 3 flats on last set of wild country. so was happy with m55 at that point

The M55's do have high "base" rubber under the center section of lugs. I've been running mine (mostly empty) at about 40 or 42 in the rear and maybe 45 or 46 in the front. This has allowed the shoulder lugs to wear along with the center which gives the tire a slighly rounded over look. But I've still worn them down until the groove down the center is now gone. The wear bars are coming up soon. I have about 29K miles on them.

Im runnin 65 front 55 rear. I also bought centramatics under the group buy. My tires are wearing but are wearing perfectly even. I rotate them every 5000 miles. My truck also wore the oem tires even on the front, but wore them fast on the rear.

I'm curious about your pressure also. I run my M55s just like JKinney. I also rotate every 5k miles just like Hoefler's pattern. Mine are wearing perfectly even. They're balanced with beads and I think that's key for ideal tread wear although I DO NOT recommend beads for the M55. Seems to me they have too stiff a carcass for the beads to provide a good ride. I have a bit of a bad balance feel to the ride, but with 55k miles on the tires I don't see having them remounted and rebalanced. Go ahead and get a fifth in the rotation if you'd like. It won't hurt anything and it'll make your set last a little longer.

Empty, it has about 65 in the front and 55 in the back. Might let a little air out though and try that.

Thanks for the responses.

Mine are still really new. They still have the buttons on them. I am trying 60 front 40 rear empty. The front seem to be matting fairly flat, but the backs still do not have any wear showing out on the end of the lugs.
