I'm running 285 M-55's. They "sing", but not so loud it bothers me. Most noticeable at ~40 mph, but again, with the window up and no stereo playing, it really isn't that bad. This is compared to Toyo Open Country AT's which were absolutely quiet. If the sound of your engine doesn't bother you, the tires shouldn't, either. No ice or snow experience yet. Fine on wet roads.

I'm planning on buying them again.

My experience is with 255/85/16's in the Toyo M-55. They gave good wear life and fair traction in the ice. I won't say excellent traction but as good as can be expected from a tire that wears as well as they do. The noise didn't bother me, on a third gen maybe but on a 12 valve there is enough other noise to cover it.

Traction is pretty good, tire wear seems to be okay, sidewalls seem VERY robust.

Tire noise is annoying, louder than the 24v cackle, quiets some when you rotate but returns within 500 or so miles. I also dropped 1-2 mpg from my Michelins AS.

Will not buy again.

Yes, they sing on the highway, but they also mellow a bit as they age. My 255/85s have quieted down now that they have about 45k miles. I've been pleased with their performance in snow and ice. I frequent a number of southern Rocky Mtn ski areas and I try my best to encounter the snow, the deeper the better, and the M55s have yet to let me down. Make sure you like them as they will be with you for some time.

LOL if you wanted a quite rig, you should have bought a Chevy. After all, they spend most of thier time silently waiting to be fixed. :-laf

The M-55s have a little noise, but they are really not bad. I have had full mudders on the truck and they were loud! Most of the time, the tires are barely audible over the engine noise. Turn up the radio to the same level I have always used and the tire noise is never an issue.

thanks for the info. the tires i have now are dueler a/t revo's and they have been good all around. in snow and ice they put the mich a/s to shame. the dueler a/t revo's went from just over six and a half to well over 8 for a set of four. they are nice tires but not for that much money. i am sure i will go with the m55. thanks again for the info. J. P.

I've run M55 before and pretty much liked them. Draw backs are they do make noise and if on a 4x4 the tread may cup/scallop on the outside of the fronts as they scrub around turns. I think the Goodyear GSAs had a good idea with the solid outside edge, but won't buy another pair. I have also run Michelin LTXs and thought they were only O. K. Lately, I've been running Cooper Discover STs and am quite happy with them.

. 02, imho, and all that rot. ;)

Ol'TrailDog. i have checked into some of the cooper tires and they said the coopers would be good for about 30k miles and that is it. one thing i need is a tire that is very good in snow and ice. the dueler a/t revos took out two windshields from rocks/gravel hits. how are the coopers in snow and ice and how do they wear?.

Trail dog, which size GSA has a solid outside edge?? I can't seem to keep the things on my 03 to save my backside.

The A in GSA mean Asymetrical tread design because the outside edge is "solid" versus the lugged design of other tires. However, I've seen a lot of threads about cracking and other issues with these tires, so I'm in no way recommending them.

I'm also looking at tires. Has anybody run the BF Goodrich AT in a 235-85-16 or the MT in 255-85-16. I know that the 255's are pushing it on the 6" rim but i have spacers available. How loud are the AT's? I have used the MT's on my old Toyota and am aware that there is a good bit of tire noise. I have been disapointed with the Michelins in regards to wear, the AS was alot better than the MS but for that much money I expect more than 30000 miles. One more thing, has anybody used the BFG commercial series?

I have 285 M55's. As mentioned by many above yeah they sing a bit, but it's no worse than the rest of the noise the truck makes. I noticed it a bit after switching to these from my BFG AT's but I don't even notice it any more. I'm happy I have E range 285s with a good year round tread that wears like iron. It'll be M55's for the rest of this trucks life.
