How do the Toyo MT tires ride on the highway and are they loud? My local dealer also has Cooper Discoverer STT that are almost identical to the Toyo's anyone know about these.
The MTs aren't bad at highway but definitely louder than the BFG ATs. They also have more rolling resistance that the ATs. I lost a couple of MPG after switching from the 315 BFG ATs to the 35" Toyo MTs. I love the look but would rather go back to the BFGs, especially for the $$$.
IMHO The Toyo's are great. Yes, a bit louder then a All-Weather tread, but not as bad as I thought they might be. I'll admit I got them for looks and for winter driving. But who knows, I might decide to keep them on year round.
I would go for the Coopers as well, I wanted the STT, but they did not have the size I wanted last year, so I ended up with the ATR's. I hear the STT is a great tire, a little noisy though.
I've got the 285/70/17 Cooper STT's on my 06 mega cab and after 20000 Km, I've had no problems. They seem to wear evenly and do a pretty good job in the mud and snow. I previously had BFG Mud terrains and All terrains on my 03. The mud terrains were a really good tire as well IMO. The AT's chipped badly on gravel and always clogged up with mud leaving me stuck with "Bologne skins" for tires.
The STT's are less noisy on the highway than the MT's but definitely more noisy than the AT's. I really don't notice it over my exhaust.
I like the look of the STT's as well. I just wish they made them in a 305/70/17 like the wrangler MTR's.
