Any knowledgeable Toyota folks out there
2013 Toyota Camry 4 cyl. Time to replace the water pump. I have a new water pump from Aisin which is a Toyota OEM part. I have replaced a number of water pumps through the years but have never seen the type of gasket that came with the pump. The gasket is black and appears to be just a thin piece of metal with the correct shape and appropriate holes. There are seven bolts holding the gasket so there will be a lot of clamping force.
My question is whether or not to use gasket sealant when I install the gasket.
Any help is appreciated

Doesn’t say anything about sealant in the manual. I wouldn’t use any.

No sealer is needed on the type of gasket. It's a crush type gasket the seals with the torque of the fasteners. The torque is very important on that type of gasket! I've used that type of gasket on several types of items, with no issues.

Not sure how many remember when working on older equipment, there was no gasket, just shellac. I've used the shellac with paper gaskets on water pumps to avoid leaks. I hated to have to pull a water pump back off! I've learned to stay away from RTV sealer on most repairs, unless this is the type of seal that was OEM.
