Last week the family went on a vacation pulling the travel trailer. The TPMS light flashed on/off a few times after we had been traveling for several hours.

The cold air pressure was set at 70 psi. I checked the pressure after the light went off and it was 75 lb in each tire. Truck has the OEM Michelin tires.

Is this possibly a bad tire pressure sensor?

I wonder if it registers a fault at that high a pressure? Some TPMS systems read the spare tire as well. I am currently dealing with a TPMS system on a '12 jeep with take off tires from another year.

Hi,

I am not that sure on the 09's but I bet it is similar to my truck which is an 08. The front tire pressure should be set to 60 PSI and the rear should be 70 PSI. The spare tire does not have a sensor on my truck.

I do not think (could be wrong) that the sensor monitors over pressure on the tires.

I think you have a sensor that is going bad. Take the truck back to the dealer and have them replace the sensors under warranty before it is out of warranty.

BTW you can thank Ford and Firestone for this wonderful feature on our trucks.

The tires should be set to the pressures on the door placard choose either light load or heavy for your useage. If the warning comes on with the correct pressures then take it to be checked out... ... ... . No the dealer will not replace all the sensors lol there are diagnostics for the system not just throwing parts at it

OK guys thanks for the information. I'll have the dealer run the diagnostics on the system.
I would put the pressures that are on the door placard but the problem is that the door was replaced and there is no placard. If I run the front tires any less than 65 psi then the truck will wander all over the road. I have them all at 70 since I was towing a travel trailer. During the light load setting the tires are set at 65f/55r.

Did the light stop flashing after a few minutes and go out?

Twice I had false TPMS signals due to other vehicles driving by with signals that interfered with my truck's sensors. It cleared up on its own after a restart and couple of minutes driving.
