Ok, for those of you that may be having some trouble with your TPS adjustments after turning up your pump and high idle screw.

I have been fighting a problem with my O/D for some time now and nobody could help. Well, I have discovered what is/ was the problem.

Under the TPS unit you can see a cut-a-way for the tang on the adapter that connects the TPS to the pump. This cut-a-way limits the total travel of the TPS.

What I did was make this cut-a-way longer on the closed end. Now when I am at WFO the TPS does not travel too far and keep it from going into O/D. I know some of you may say that this mod is not needed but, some of us do need it. It all depends how sensitive your TPS is.

And one more thing I have discovered. If the throttle linkage doesn't come up to a solid stop, it will vibrate and send erratic signals to the TPS. This will cause the O/D to be fine one time and hunt other times.

Just sharing what I have found. Sure took long enough.

Thanks for the info Dave,

Not sure if that's my problem, I think I got the bolt head off one flat when I adjusted my pump, I thought it was the tps going bad again so I cleaned it out and it didn't help so I tried to adjust it the other day and even after moving it the opposite direction from where it was it's still not going into OD until 60mph and it pops out at around 55, not good when going down a road with traffic at 50-60, it pops in and out too much.

Thanks for the info, one of these days I'll take a look at it again.

You can fix this problem by turning the plastic piece under the tps bracket CCW alittle with a thin 10mm wrench. Hold the throttle when adjusting tps. Drive to test. You will need to adjust tps anytime you make a timing adjustment or throttle adjustment.

Exactly mark, and also "... . the bolt being off one flat... . " is also correct. That's why, in my 'how to' TPS instructions I mention to observe that hex head/socket relationship closely. Mine snapped back on 'flat' when I did mine the first time and confused me when putting it back on.

Glad you got your problem fixed Dave. BTW, nice tire turnin on Bomb Day too... . I'd sure like to buff up my turbo/elbows etc like yours. Maybe you can bring that stuff up (if possible) on the next Bomb Day and we can buff up a shine on my stuff too...

bob.

Bob, I can bring the polishing stuff anytime someone wants me to. However, since it is a messy job, we will need a place out of the way to do it.

And just for info's sake, it takes about two hours to polish a compressor housing. So a lot of time is needed for this stuff.

But it sure looks pretty.
