Ok I got a few quick questions about the role of the tps amd how to replace one. When mine failed (fell apart) the transmission wouldnt lock up and wouldnt shift into 4th gear, also the cruse controll would accelerate the truck uncontrollablly after going up a hill.

If the TPS is a feedback source for the cruse controll then how do the manual versions of the truck with cruse controll work???

And is there any special procedure for re-installing one??

Control of electrical things is the task of the PCM. The TPS sends a signal to the PCM indicating the position of the throttle. That's all it does. The PCM uses that signal and other info for control of the transmission and, I think, the cruise control. The manual transmission truck also have a PCM. It does not expect input from the TPS on those trucks. Other inputs to the PCM are engine speed (RPM) and truck speed (MPH). I don't know the specific algorythm used in the PCM to determine what action to take in regard to the cruise control based on the various sensor inputs.
