Looks like I am going to have to replace my TPS. I have determined that is where my transmission "hunting" is coming from. When I had the scan tool hooked up, I was able to use the scan tool to check the TPS. It was showing that the voltage was all over the place while holding the throttle open. I did clean the TPS with TV Tuner cleaner and it helped some, but I still have bouts of the voltage jumping . Where is the best price at on a replacement ? Local NAPA said they could have it "next day" $ 194. + tax...

It will taks me some time, but I'll look into my subscribed threads for this. Someone posted a Cummins part number at a substantial savings.

List was $197 a year ago, my cost was $130 from a dealer that I used to work at. It was a Cummins box with a MOPAR PN label attached to it. It was PN 4746966.

I found that my problem was actually the plug in the harness, seemed that after I unplugged, cleaned and replugged, the TPS behaved. I also noticed extreme cold and excessive heat (yeah OHIO) (sometimes the same day!) made a difference in the performance. My solution was to cut off the plug and replaced with a Williams Controls part #131140. I cut the plug off of the new harnesss and soldered into the one on my engine- so far- no problem! That part is for a Detroit Diesel Electronic foot pedal assembly. Can't tell you what they run from a dealer as I bought mine at a swap meet.

Thanks everybody. I'll see what I can come up with. I just don't like to spend too much money if and when someone is overpriced.

Check the plug on the RPM sensor to. If it has a bad connection it will cause the OD to hunt around also.

The TPS signal wire going into the PCM can get loose also. The female termial can spread out and cause the trans to hunt OD. The TPS signal wire is the orange/BK strip in the center row, 2nd terminal from the front of the truck.
