Pretty painless install. I rented a puller for the ball joint but couldn't get enough room to use it and I wasn't about to remove other suspension parts, besides, it was pouring rain! Lucky for me, I had just a few days ago, purchased a rock bar from home depot. The ball joint was no match for a 5' solid steel bar. The Moog part went in with no problem, a little turning of the steering wheel back and forth and it lined right up. I got the part from CarQuest, thanks to a members direction(Bill Lins of Texas, my thanks. ), it was $175 though, but atleast I didn't have any down time and I can Lukes Link my old bar at my leisure, should I have the inclination.
The test drive: The first thing I noticed was the steering wheel cocked about thirty degrees to the right, but I always new I was going to need an alignment anyways. Other than the tendancy to try to go to the right (due to lack of alignment) I had no problem driving in a straight line! WOW! It's been almost 3 years! The other thing I noticed is it didn't want to drift into oncoming traffic
You never realize how much they drift side to side until you are on a narrow, winding, back country, Maine two lane with a combined bypassing speed in excess of 100Mph
Here is the other cool (
) thing. . . if you are on a straightaway, and you turn the steering wheel just a little. . . . the truck turns
and it's in the direction you intended it to go!Oo. Crazy huh?!?!?
I still plan to do somemore steering/suspension upgrades, but I'm very pleased with the improvement so far. How can something that really isn't connected to the steering system, have such a profound affect when it goes to crap?
