I need to replace the track bar on my truck. Im very disappointed that it is worn after only about 60k miles. Im a little concerned about replacing it with the same thing from dodge. Is there a beefier track bar available that might last a little longer ?

thanks

After one track bar replaced under warranty at 30k miles and antother replaced by me at 65k miles, I rebuilt mine with a Luke's Link at about 90k miles. I now have close to 180,000 miles and it's as tight as ever.

SSI Trackbar

I replaced two trackbars before I tried others. . Lukes Link hit my diff cover, so I pulled it. I finally went with the Solid Steel industries adjustable track bar and bracket (The adjustable track bar is a must if you have, or plan to, lift the truck)... They also make a solid replacement bar... A shop I dealt with welded the bracket; as they felt it was moving... A good combo... several shops, including KORE, make adjustable trackbars, but you will have to source a bracket?... I would suggesting checking with KORE or Desert Racing Concepts to see what they have... replacing the dodge bar with a lifetime guarantee product (Napa used to have one) is another option... but then you still have to change it out every 20-30k. my experience fwiw.

I've replaced mine about every 20-25K miles (four or five times now) with a NAPA track bar. I paid for only the first one. This is the lowest cost, maybe, but some hassle.

If I were doing it over I'd put in the Solid Steel bracket and third gen track bar.

My track bar needs replacing also, but I have 186,000 on original.

I did a search on track bars and most of the members seemed to like Thuren's. I checked out there web site, it is a bit pricey but I didn't read any complaints about it. Since my truck is still holding the road good I'm going to save up some money and order one. He makes one for stock and one for lifted trucks.

This link is for instructions on removal and installation but you should be able to get to the home page from it.

I love my Solid Steel adjustable track bar..... really works well. I have heard nothing but good things about the Lukes Link after my recent post in these forums..... it sounds like it is awesome.

Thuren Fabrication's TB is excellent. The added ability to center the axle allows for that fine tuning touch that you can't get with out adjustability. I stopped by and had Don do my install and I say again it was astounding to drive and feel the difference. The aspect of a "ball joint" in the assembly for a track bar is not a good design. I highly recommend Thuren's 3rd Gen design.

I agree that the Moog track bar is heavier and the ball joint is bigger but not necessarily stronger! The only good thing is lifetime warranty.

My original track bar lasted for 300,000 kms. The heim joint is what wore out on my original track bar. The Moog lasted 60,000 kms when the ball joint was gone.

Next time I think I will put in the Solid Steel track bar.

I thought Thuren has awalys had his own design. Is he making a 3rd gen trackbar conversion, or is just his normal bar?

I haven't heard too many complaints from the Thiren guys either. I do like the 3rd gen setup from DSS as if I were to ever bend of break it (not likely) I could locate a replacement at a parts house of the dealer.

Dave,

Yes, Don's doing a 3rd Gen set up and has been doing so for quite sometime now. The grade of the components are very impressive along with Delrin composition at the joints. It's a bullet proof set up and the sizing of the assembly is outstanding.

Dave, I'll purchase the conversion kit from Rip and the TB from Don... He doesn't make a conversion kit at this time.

Phil ;)

I think I am seeing the light. Don makes the 3rd gen bar but no adapter to mount onto 2nd gens?

Usually I am a little sharper. Sorry guys.

Dave

Don Thuren has my vote hands down. Not only a class act guy, he has a smaller hands on shop with quality comparible to none. My trac bar came with some install tips hand written on the inside of the box with a magic marker! The guys at Solid Steel are some grand ol Canadians... but Don has my vote on the Trac Bar.
