I have read a lot of post about track bar replacement, and which brand is the preferred brand, but what about when a track bar fails, is it just the rubber bushings that goes bad, or does it fail in other ways?

How would the truck react if the track bar was not doing its job efficiently?

On the 3rd gens, you can just replace the trackbar bushings at either end... they are available from Geno's Garage.

Typically, you get some wandering, depending on the point of degradation...

I replaced mine with the urethane parts from Geno's ~ worked great! I dont think you need to replace the entire bar unless you have a substantial lift kit ~ 6" or more.
The worst part is getting the old ones out. I had to use a propane torch to soften them up before driving them out.
