anybody out there trade a 2001 QC 4x4 6 speed HO SB or equivalent on their new 2003 truck? just wandering the difference or trade value. kbb is about 24000-25500 but i see the same trucks for sale on the lots for 29800-31400. does the stealer need to make that much money on our trades? did anybody think they got a good deal.

thanks for any input, it will help a lot with my decision

I had a dealer offer me $23K outright purchase, for an '01 4wd, sport, auto. That was a very generous offer from a dealer. I wound up selling to an individual.

Are you looking at trade in value or private sale value? If your going to trade it in you have to be prepared to take a beating. The price you see at the dealers is what they are hoping a sucker will pay, they will let em go for less. The trade in value is at any rate lower than the private sale price. It is reasonable to expect that the dealer needs to make some money on the deal. Of course it goes without saying what they want to make is unreasonable.

sales tax

I don't know if this is an issue in your case or not, but here in Nebraska at the dealer you get to use the trade in value as a credit on your sales tax bill. In my case, it helped out by $1800. I now only have to pay $756 tax plus a $600 license fee. So, as far as I am concerned, the sales tax thing and then advertising in the local paper, etc. , nearly if not completely wipes out any advantage of selling privately unless you can get a REAL good price. After DAYS of haggling and calls and visits to dealers around the state, I got the price I wanted to begin with from my local dealer. This was the sixth purchase from them since 1992.
