I need to install a trailer brake controller in my pickup. I want it to be the smallest unit possible and still bolt on without looking bad, What kind do you guys use?

Thanks Dyarle

I just put on a Tekonsha Voyager trailer brake, about the size of a pack of smokes and a real simple install.

I've had the Tek. Voyager for 5 yrs. . It's tricky to get adjusted right. I'd like to try something else if this one quits. Tekonsha has newer ones that look better. I think their site is tekonsha.com.

I have a Tekonsha on my '95.
For my 2001 I chose the "Accupower POD" unit. Very reasonably priced and requires less attention than my Tekonsha. I do recommend it.

I use the Tekonsha sentinal. I have it mounted to the knee bolster using heavy duty velcro. It doesn't look bad but if I ever want it out I just unsnap it and unplug it. 2 minutes tops.

For size Tekonsha voyager.

I use the Tekonsha Envoy. It is a new design. I think it is a little more stylish. I mounted it to the left of the ashtray.

BTW, in the ball joint, do not use the little piece of foam that they supply for friction. It doesn't work. I used a piece of adhesive-backed sandpaper; works great.

<font color=blue> You might want to check the other thread entitled "trailer airbrakes" in this P&A forum - a fellow TDR member (handle Hotshot, posted in the last day or so) has commented upon the OEM vacuum pump assisted air-over-hydraulic set-up and as far as I can understand from the information supplied so far, it may well have the edge over normal electric trailer brakes, plus it provides a very smooth retarding force when applied to the trailer, unlike some electric brake set-ups..... by all accounts!!

Keep in mind all brake controls operate under one of several ways. Most of the newer simple small ones are time delay (Accu-POD) and probably some of the Tekonshas. The other type is pendulum or inertia. This type most closely mimics "the harder you push your brake pedal the more the brake control activates the trailer brakes. Converely, once stopped at a stop light the inertia stops and the brake control stops quits applying the trailer brakes. This is the type Tekonsha Sentiniel uses. We have several dozen trucks in a fleet using this control and for most drivers that do not want to fuss it is the best.

Many issues with electric brakes are blamed on the control when in fact it is poor brake maintenance!
