Trailer brakes

I receive message on dash display " Service Trailer Brakes" , had trailer hooked up into connector for 4 lights, left, and right ground. Trailer doesn't have brakes, is this a problem or what.

Were you using a 4 way or 7 way plug? Sounds like it saw a circuit on the trailer brake control wire. Could have just been a bad ground and the trailer was trying to find a ground path through any circuit.

Thanks Sag2 I was using the 4 way, I did check for codes there was none, when using this little truck don't tow my larger trailers with disc brakes, use 3500 for that. After returning home did check all the trailer lights make sure no broken ground wires.
