Draining engine oil and RV fresh water

fifth wheel shopping

I just moved to the Texas gulf coast from northern California and I am wondering what I have to do differently to my 5th wheel when I store it in the hot humid climate. I have heard of using dessicant and getting a roof vent cover so I can leave the roof vent open for fresh air, is this true? Any suggestions or experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pat

Another option is a Dehumidifier. They run about $150 and most can be setup to run the drain line out side.

Pat,

I use the vent covers at the moment. When I can, I'll get a thirty amp box out there so I can run the A/C.

How did your move go? How's the young'un? Drop me a line when you have the time.

Here in Alabama we leave the vents open ,but we have maxair covers to keep the rain out. We don't have and problems here in the Tenn valley. It do get sticky here and the wind don't blow like it do in Texas. You shouldn't have any problems. Another thing if you run your A/C and don't open the door to exchange the air you could cause the walls/windows to sweat:cool: Like it do in the winter

The humidity can get pretty bad at times here in Texas, my trailer is usaually stored under a 20x30 covered garage. I have the maxxair covers on the roof vents, just crank up the vents and crack open a couple of widows. Make sure you leave your refrig and freezer doors crack open so they don't mildew.

I store under cover also. I leave the roof vents open unless a tropical system is coming in thats not to bad. I do get some mildew on some of the wood work especially in the spring when its real damp in the morning and humid in the afternoon. No problem this time of year. Going to try some desicate in the trailer next spring and see if it helps. There is no power available in the storage area. (Fire code)
