I had a 94 4x4 with an equalizer for my trailer. I now have a 06 4x4 and when the rear of the truck is cranked up I don't get the same tension as before. So i guess the ball is at a different heigth. Anyone know the difference and if going to the next chain link is the answer.

I don't know what the height difference is between old and new, but you should get the trailer level first, then adjust the ball up or down (I'm assuming the hitch is adjustable) until the ball would fit under the hood. Then figure which link to use to keep truck and trailer closest to level after you let the trailer down on the hitch. I did have to adjust mine when I went from the 97 to 06.

My hitch has room to go up but not down. So do I move it about one hole up on the goose neck. My mind thinks it should go down. If it goes up will that put more pressure on the equalizer? The trailer looks pretty level now but I guess with out pressure I'm not equalizing anything.

you adjust the height and the angle of the head to get proper tension on the bars to maintain level and proper weight transfer to the front axle of the truck.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, moving the head up or down won't change the pressure... only moving weight forward on the trailer will do that.

Talked to two trailer Co. One no help the other said to ensurer the equalizer bar is parallel with the trailer tongue. The trailer and truck should be level. Then move the ball to adjust with out regaurd to the amount of pressure. This must be done on level ground. Now I guess I need to find some level ground. Tried to in a rest area but did not work well.

I had to change the higth of my ball when I when from the 99 too the 05 just to get the trailer level. before I adjusted the hitch I had to much weight on the trailers rear axle.

Then you moved the ball down??? I get the impression the 06 4x4 is lower than the 94 4x4?? To the bottom of my reciever is about 20 1/2 inch on my 06. Any one with an 04 have that number? And what is your tire size?
