There are a couple of articles in the March Trailer Life that may be of marginal interest:

Page 20 features a piece on the '04. 5. The most interesting part was that they claimed the exhaust brake (available from Mopar for dealer installation) "is now certified for both manual and automatic transmissions and won't void warranty". Hmmmmmmm, hate to get scooped by TL:rolleyes: .

The feature on Page 42 featured an '03 pulling a 15,726# New Horizons Summit 35' fiver and the test results on page 44 of that article were somewhat interesting.

We did not get scooped. Implications at the product intro in Dec. were that the brake was approved for the 48RE. Subsequent communication from DC showed that that is not yet the case. DC is making changes as we "speak" to bring about this compatibility. TL is using old info, and not official at that. TDR has the latest in Issue 43 Oo.

Dean,

I know the feeling, its sometimes hard to make yourself clear on these posts!

So,... ... . what does it say on p. 44?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Dave, there are some performance figures:

"0-60 mph solo: 9. 8 sec

40-60 mph solo: 4. 7 mph

Towing: 9. 4 mpg

0-60 mph 31. 5 sec

40-60 mph: 18. 1 sec

Performance recorded at 77 degrees F, sea level.

Economy recorded at 80 - 106 F, undulating terrain, sea level to 5,250 ft. "

The trailer being pulled uas a New Horizons F34RLTSS Summit weighing 15,726#. This is just about it as far as what the truck is rated for. The truck used in the test was a '03 DRW.

RE: Trailer life March issue

They stated that it was an 03 dually and using 04 specs for the article. But what got me was that, they USUALLY use there f--d tow vehicles and could not use there F550 for the test. (The last 3 paragraphs) The air ride pin box was not compatible with that truck. I JUST ABOUT CRIED cause i felt so bad about them not being able to use that F550.

Ever notice F--d is in almost all the advertisements??? must be because of the add space they buy.

just my penny's worth.

Marv.

(I hope this is not considered FLAMING or baiting. if it is I apologize)

Not in defense of TL, but the main reason that they use the Ford 550 in testing that category of trailer is the heavy weight. That is too much trailer for our Dodges to tow (legally). :) .

I also noted that both TL articles were written by the same Gregory R. Whale that writes the "Four Whaling" articles in our T. D. Register. Good job Greg!
