Our '94 vintage trucks were prone to burned-out headlight switches caused by having it also carry the trailer running light circuit. The fix was a "bypass operation" of some kind.

Do any of you electrical types know whether the 3G trucks have a design feature to eliminate that flaw? The feel of the headlight switch makes me think I'm sending a pilot signal to a relay, not actually making/breaking the feed to the headlights. I see there's a relay for trailer running lights, but that may not be anything new.

You are correct, the headlight switch does not turn on headlights, taillights, side markers, trailer lights, or anything else of significance. It only turns on the relays, or tells the computer to turn on relays for all the lighting.
